Homemade Caramel Sauce on Caramel Macchiato

This homemade caramel sauce is perfect for your caramel macchiatos, super easy and better than a store bought!

To be honest, i haven’t been able to find a good caramel sauce for my coffee here in Istanbul, and have been craving it for so long.

So, i decided to make my own at home.

I didn’t know it was super easy to make than looking for a good one to buy. From now on, i will be always making my own at home.

Homemade Caramel Sauce

This homemade caramel sauce is perfect for your caramel macchiatos, super easy and better than a store bought!

Cook Time 10 minutes
Total Time 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1/4 cup of water
  • 1 cup of heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon of butter
  • Pinch of salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a small sauce pan, add sugar and water, cook in a medium low heat, stir until it bubbles.
  2. Stop stirring and let it cook until it turns to amber color (like honey), be careful do not burn it.
  3. Remove the sauce pan from the heat, start stirring and very slowly add butter and heavy cream. It will bubble a lot when you add the heavy cream so, be careful.
  4. Once everything is corporated and the sauce is creamy, let it cool for about 10-15 minutes.
  5. Pour into a jar or a sauce bottle, it will thicken as it cools.
  6. You can use it on your caramel macchiatos, fruits and desserts.

Notes

  1. It takes around 10 minutes for the color of sugar turns to amber however keep an eye on it so, it doesn't burn. Remove it from the pan immediately when color turns.
  2. If you are using it only for desserts, you can increase the amount of butter to 2-3 tablespoons.
